Bomb - WW1 British 230lb H.E.R.L. (Set of 2)

Comprising: Two historically accurate scale models in high-resolution, 3D-printed resin.

History:  Developed within the official ordnance system under the direction of the Royal Laboratory to standardize heavier demolition bombs for the expanding strategic and tactical bombing campaigns of the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Naval Air Service, the 230lb bomb provided substantial destructive effect and became one of the principal heavy H.E. bombs of 1917–1918.  A flat-nosed variant was developed for anti-submarine warfare.  These were fused to explode 2.5 seconds after impact, which allowed the charge to sink to about eighty feet before detonation. 

Operational Use: This bomb is documented to have been used by numerous airplanes, including the Airco DH.4, D.H.9., D.H.9a, D.H.10; Blackburn G.P., S.P. and Kangaroo; Curtis Model H; Fairey III, Felixstowe F.2/F.3; Handley Page V/1500; Martinsyde Elephant / G.102; Royal Aircraft Factory F.E.2b and F.E.2d; Short Admiralty Types 184 and 320, the Short Bomber and N.2B; and the Vickers Vimy.
