Bomb - WW1 British 336lb R.A.F. (Set of 2)

Comprising: Two historically accurate scale models in high-resolution, unpainted, 3D-printed resin. Available in your choice of 1/32, 1/48, or 1/72 scale.

History: The experimental phosphorus "sweeper" bomb was developed by the Royal Aircraft Factory to clear ground targets and suppress infantry lines. Made of a cast-steel case containing 70 lbs of explosives, its intended targets included railway stations, factories, aerodromes, and enemy personnel. As an unusual chemical and incendiary design of the era, it was built to test tactical dispersal patterns over a wide radius, though it was considered completely obsolete by 1918.

Operational Use:  No. 21 Squadron, RFC, became the very first operational unit to drop the 336lb bomb in combat. Flying the underpowered Royal Aircraft Factory R.E.7, pilots executed a series of 29 high-altitude sorties between 30 June 30 and 9 July 1916. They targeted vital German railway junctions and logistics hubs at Bapaume, St. Sauveur, and Cambrai right at the opening of the Battle of the Somme.

Documented to have equipped several early British aircraft, including the Airco D.H.4; Martinsyde G.100 and G.102 Elephant; and the Royal Aircraft Factory R.E.5 and R.E.7. Due to its experimental nature and specialized handling requirements, it was deployed strictly in limited tactical testing trials and saw minimal widespread combat use before the conclusion of the Great War.
