Comprising: Eight historically accurate scale models in high-resolution, 3D-printed resin.
History: Belgian engineer-officer César Battaille (born 1882) served in the Aviation Militaire Belge as an armurier and observateur, becoming noted for his inventive work on airborne ordnance. After volunteering in August 1914, he quickly filed patents for incendiary projectiles (flèche ou obus incendiaire) intended to combat German dirigibles. By mid-1915, Battaille developed and patented a “bombe pour avions à fusée inversée et à grand pouvoir d’inflammation", a high-incendiary aircraft bomb designed with an upward-directed fragmentation upon impact.
Operational Use: In the night of 22–23 August 1915, Battaille and pilot Henri Crombez initiated a bombing sortie using one 30kg and two 15kg Battaille bombs against enemy positions. Aircraft known to have carried these bombs include various Farman (particularly the F.40), Voisin, and possibly Caudron types.
Note: Images may include digital renderings of the actual 3D designs used to produce this scale model. Each respective scale is customized to ensure the greatest level detail and historical accuracy while factoring the limitations of the printing process in order to produce the most pleasing results.
