Comprising: Six historically accurate scale models in high-resolution, unpainted, 3D-printed resin. Available in your choice of 1/32, 1/48, or 1/72 scale.
History: Upon entry into the Great War, the Corpo Aeronautico Militare and the Servizio Aeronautico della Regia Marina faced an urgent need for effective aerial munitions. Before purpose-built aircraft bombs became available, the adaptation of existing ground ordnance began when Italian aviators and engineers modified standard trench mortar bombs.
Tail fins, stabilizing vanes, and impact fuzes were added to existing artillery shells, transforming them into simple gravity-dropped aerial weapons. Originally designed for trench warfare, the 130mm mortar shell offered a large explosive payload suited to attacks on troop concentrations, supply depots, and fortifications, prompting Italian engineers to modify fuzes for impact detonation after release.
Operational Use: These converted bombs were typically carried externally on heavy bombers and airships. Aircraft types known to have been armed with this type include various Caproni, Farman, FBA, Pomilio, Macchi, and Voisin makes.
Note: Images may include digital renderings of the actual 3D designs used to produce this scale model. Each scale is customized to ensure the highest level of detail and historical accuracy, while balancing the limitations of the printing process to produce the most pleasing results.
