Comprising: Four unpainted 3D-printed resin bombs in your choice of 1/72, 1/48, or 1/32 scale.
History: During the Great War, the Corpo Aeronautico Militare and Servizio Aeronautico della Regia Marina adapted heavy trench‑mortar ammunition, most notably the 260mm bombarda shell, into aerial bombs in effort to achieve greater destructive effect against entrenched positions and rear‑area targets. The Type II 260mm bomb improved upon the earlier Type I with tail fins and stabilizing vanes mounted on a long rod from the rear of the casing. These enhancements along with a smaller explosive payload reduced overall weight of the bomb.
Operational Use: Typically, these bombs could only be carried externally and in small numbers by Italy’s largest multi‑engined bombers, particularly the Caproni heavy bomber series, and were intended for short‑range missions against high‑value targets such as fortifications, rail hubs, and supply depots. Aircraft known to have been armed with this type include Caproni, Macchi, SIA, and Voisin variants in addition to M-Class and V-Class airships. They were primarily used from 1916-1917, and continued to be carried on missions through the end of the war.
