Bomb - WWI Russian 10Kg Oranovsky High-Explosive (Set of 8)

History: This 10kg aerial bomb was designed in late 1914 by Lt. Col. V. M. Oranovsky for the Imperial Russian Air Service (Imperatorskiy Voyenno-Vozdushnyy Flot / Императорскій военно-воздушный флотъ), with formal adoption and production beginning in early 1915. Constructed of a forged-steel body with a conical nose and a distinctive ring-tail stabilizer, it was intended for use against troop concentrations, supply depots, rail targets, and light field fortifications.

It was among the first standardized Russian aircraft bombs produced in quantity during the First World War, filling an urgent need for purpose-built, air-dropped munitions at a time when early Russian aviators primarily relied on improvised devices. Sometimes classified as a "half-pood" before metric rationalization, it was gradually supplanted by more modern Soviet-standard Fugasnaya Aviatsionnaya Bomba (FAB) designs by the early 1920s, yet it remains one of the foundational purpose-designed aerial bombs of Russian military aviation.

Operational Use: Carried both singly and in small racks by reconnaissance aircraft and heavy bombers, it remained in use through the later Imperial period and the Russian Civil War. It was designated FAB-10 under the Soviet classification system formalized in the 1920s when the Red Air Fleet reorganized and standardized ordnance nomenclature. Aircraft types documented as having carried the bomb include the Farman MF.11 and HF.30, Lebed XII, Ilya Muromets, and Voisin III and V.
