Not all models are created equal...  so keep your kit flying with our 3D-printed, unpainted-resin, super-detailer's set!  This unique upgrade has been produced by request and in conjunction with one of our fellow modelers!  It is designed to enhance the realism and building fun of the many variants of this popular allied workhorse.  Based on the popular Toko/Eastern Express kits in 1/72 scale, it also complements other manufacturers' kits and after-market photo-etch accessories.

History: The '1½ Strutter' was introduced in early 1916 as a two-seat fighter-reconnaissance aircraft designed by the Sopwith Aviation Company, notable as the first British two-seat type with a synchronized forward-firing machine gun and for its distinctively-shaped cabane struts that gave it its name. First fielded by the Royal Naval Air Service and subsequently the Royal Flying Corps (later Royal Air Force), it was employed as a fighter, bomber, artillery spotter, reconnaissance machine, and shipboard aircraft, including operations from land bases and from platforms fitted to warships; it also served as a trainer later in the war.

The type was built in several principal variants, including the 9400 two-seat fighter (long- and short-range versions), the 9700 light bomber, single-seat bomber conversions, and dedicated trainers. In addition to British service, it saw extensive service with France (which produced it in greater numbers than the British) as a bomber and reconnaissance aircraft, Belgium, the United States primarily as a trainer, Russia, and Japan. Total production amounted to approximately 5,939 aircraft, making it the fourth-most-produced aircraft of the Great War.
